pocket god

Pocket God is a fun game for iPod, iPad, and iPhone touch.  I play it all the time my favorite character is Charlie.  Charlie is always up to something. Like turning into a tiger and saying “I’ve got tiger blood and it’s honest D.N.A.”, or when it’s night and everyone’s sleeping he says “only normal people sleep”.

You can take them to eight different islands.  There are forty – two episodes you need to unlock.  You can play underwater, on land, or in the sky.  On some of the islands you can feed the pygmy to a shark.

I hope you like this game I do.

The Stickman Show

The stickman show was created by me and my friends.  We had a lot of fun making the shows.   My friends and I hope you enjoy our hard word!

It all started by my friends playing around with popsicle sticks and art supplies.  Then they thought we should make a videos with these sticks.

We make these videos all the time.  I will post the show on my blog about every week.  Make sure to come back for next weeks show.

Hope you enjoyed come back next week.

Starting Up A Roth IRA For Kids

Earning Income

My son has started to experiment with starting his own businesses.  Mostly small services like shoveling the neighbor’s driveway, cleaning cars, mowing lawns, etc.  While he is truly earning this money, it’s still kind of under the radar from a tax perspective, and quite honestly the amount each year is only a hundred or so dollars (if that).

But now my son is starting to expand this small business ideas in a new way!  He has recently started an online business that has the potential to make him a few hundred or possible even a few thousand dollars, depending on how hard he works at promoting and sticking with it.  And this new business enables me to set up a Roth IRA for him!

Why Start Up A Roth IRA For Kids

I’ve always wanted my kids to have a Roth IRA, but always felt uncomfortable starting one since those businesses that they are able to do are what I consider backyard businesses.  Since he now has a legitimate, “on the internet” business, I can now look into starting a Roth IRA for him since it’s a legitimate business.

The primary reason to start-up a Roth IRA is for the tax benefit that he could achieve if he invests in stocks, mutual funds or ETFs.  A Roth IRA is perfect for young kids because it has the incredible benefit of growing tax-free!  Plus, since a kid earning a few thousand dollars isn’t taxed anyway, the Roth IRA is far superior than other types of retirement saving options for kids.

How We Plan On Funding The Roth IRA

Okay, so my son will earn some money by working, so do you think he will understand when I take his hard-earned money and put it in a Roth IRA?

Heck NO!!!, and I don’t blame him!  So instead what I’m going to do is whatever he earns for the year from his business, I’m going to match and put my money into his Roth IRA.

You see even though he has earned the money, he doesn’t have to put his own money in the Roth IRA.  So he will keep what he earns, and I will gift him the money to put into his Roth IRA account.  This is another great win-win for him!  He gets to keep the money he makes, and at the same time he gets to have an incredible tax-free investment option with money I provide for him!

Roth IRA Isn’t Just For Retirement

The Beauty of a Roth IRA is that it can be used for so much more than just retirement purposes!  For instance, any money that he puts into the account can be withdrawn at any time so long as it’s not earnings.

So for instance, if he contributes $1,000 and over 5 years he doesn’t contribute any more and the balance grows to $1,500, he can withdrawal the initial $1,000 without any problems.

That said, the $500 would be considered earnings within the account and he wouldn’t be able to withdrawal that amount without incurring both taxes on the $500 and a 10% tax penalty for early withdrawal since the $500 would be considered earnings.

So as you can see in my brief writeup on a Roth IRA, it’s a great investment opportunity for kids if they have earned income.

New Year Surprise

New Years was great, but also a very scary surprise !

We decided to spend New Years with family, and it was a blast!

Calvin and Hobbes New Year Resolutions

New Year Resolutions

Once getting home, everybody was exhausted, so we all went right to bed.  Then a most peculiar thing happened!  Our dog started barking like we were being attacked by some alien space monsters!  I jumped out of bed and sprinted to the bedroom door.  As I started towards the stairs, I noticed that my dog was barking at the downstairs front door.

At this point I ran back upstairs, back into the bedroom and finally sprinted to the front window.  I peeked out through the venetian blinds, slowly separating them so as not to be seen (of course the lights in the bedroom were off too!).  I thought about opening the window a crack to see if I could hear any sounds outside, when at that point I saw a medium-sized beagle trotting onto our front lawn.  It was there for a second, the scurried off as our dog continued to freak out, barking like crazy at this point!

This is the first time that I remember our dog barking crazily at night like this.  She (our dog is a female) usually is a sounds sleeper for a dog, so this was very surprising.  We all were happy that our dog barked to alarm us, but it was a hard night after that.

We hope you had a great New Year’s Eve!
