There aren’t many triple wins in life, but this past Saturday was a triple win in my book, let me explain…
My family has this “biking for charity” tradition where we go to this small rural town and pay to participate in a 20 mile bike ride along an paved stretch of land beside a now defunct railroad track. It’s a very scenic ride and a blast since the ride is with my family!
I was kind of excited because it’s an “unofficial” family tradition for the men to go on this annual bike ride!
You see, the past three or four years my grandfather, and my two uncles (one of which is my grandfather’s brother) go down to this small town and pay about $10 to $20 per person to ride this trail. The money is used to help purchase books for this small town’s library. So that is how biking for charity is really a triple win for me and my family!
- I (we) get to go on a fun-filled bike ride through a beautiful part of the country, cracking jokes all the way and talking smack to each other.
- We help a small town’s library purchase books and other services which they wouldn’t be able to purchase otherwise.
- We all bond as a family and become that much closer. We all look forward to the riding for charity event each year! Especially me since this is my first year!
While on the surface, it might seem like a small, trite thing that we do each year, but it’s much more than it seems. We really do have a blast, and we feel good about helping a small community that doesn’t collect a lot of taxes (this town is very small without any big companies providing work for the community, they are mostly farmers).
I hope you enjoyed my little story about my latest entertainment adventure!
Thanks for reading!
