Staying The Weekend At The House Of A Friend

This past Saturday, I stayed at the house of a friend!

Since money is tight right now, staying at a friend’s house for the weekend was a great frugal way to have a fun time while just spending money for the gas to drive over and stay the night!

nightmare friends

I got to my friend’s house a little bit latter than I wanted (6:00pm on Saturday), but we squeezed a lot of activities during that time frame!  Below outlines the things I did at my friend’s house:

  1. Watched the Halloween-ish movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas“.  This is a personal favorite of mine out of all the Halloween movies out there!  The stop-motion filming is truly an awesome effect, and while it might be pushing it for very little kids, it’s perfect for me!  I even enjoy most of the songs in the movie (especially “What’s this”).  Of course popcorn and pop was part of the experiences.  This was a great time as always!
  2. Next we ran around like crazy people.  Silly games that involving a lot of moving and the like.
  3. XBox games.  Too many to mention, but this is a great way to spend the evening.  Although I like games, I’m more into minecraft at this point in my life.
  4. Talked until early morning hours.  I haven’t seen this particular friend in a long time, so it was good to catch up in what is going on around the area!

So while this wasn’t a high impact entertainment sort of activity (except maybe for XBox 360), it was still very enjoyable, and a lot of value for the time spent!

Biking For Charity – Triple Win

There aren’t many triple wins in life, but this past Saturday was a triple win in my book, let me explain…

My family has this “biking for charity” tradition where we go to this small rural town and pay to participate in a 20 mile bike ride along an paved stretch of land beside a now defunct railroad track.  It’s a very scenic ride and a blast since the ride is with my family!

I was kind of excited because it’s an “unofficial” family tradition for the men to go on this annual bike ride!

You see, the past three or four years my grandfather, and my two uncles (one of which is my grandfather’s brother) go down to this small town and pay about $10 to $20 per person to ride this trail.  The money is used to help purchase books for this small town’s library.  So that is how biking for charity is really a triple win for me and my family!

  1. I (we) get to go on a fun-filled bike ride through a beautiful part of the country, cracking jokes all the way and talking smack to each other.
  2. We help a small town’s library purchase books and other services which they wouldn’t be able to purchase otherwise.
  3. We all bond as a family and become that much closer.  We all look forward to the riding for charity event each year!  Especially me since this is my first year!

While on the surface, it might seem like a small, trite thing that we do each year, but it’s much more than it seems.  We really do have a blast, and we feel good about helping a small community that doesn’t collect a lot of taxes (this town is very small without any big companies providing work for the community, they are mostly farmers).

I hope you enjoyed my little story about my latest entertainment adventure!

Have you taken a hike this week yet.  I did, with my Mom, Sister, and Dog.  We all had a lot of fun.

It’s healthy, and fun in fact.  We were on the hike for more than an hour.  There was a huge slant, and we climbed up and down it.

We also found a tree that fell across a small creek.  So we took advantage of it and walked across it to a bank and back.  I had my dog though so I had to take her across the creek by jumping over it.  My dog just walked right through it though.

Then we just walked the trail and went home.  Well that’s all for now join me next time.
